UECC CONTRACTS SURVITEC FOR NINE-VESSEL SOLAS 360 SERVICE

UECC CONTRACTS SURVITEC FOR NINE-VESSEL SOLAS 360 SERVICE

Norwegian ro-ro operator UECC (United European Car Carriers) has signed a nine-vessel service and certification agreement with Survitec, representing the largest single contract the safety service supplier has received to-date for its new SOLAS 360 service.

The five-year contract, signed in April, for the servicing and inspection of the vessels’ life-saving appliances (LSA), follows the 2018 introduction of the novel servicing arrangement.

Baba Devani, Managing Director Marine Division, Survitec, said: “This milestone agreement is indicative of the market trend that sees shipowners putting safety at the heart of their operations. Through SOLAS 360, Survitec will partner with UECC to keep its operations safe and sustainable. SOLAS 360 helps towards minimising the risk of ship downtime and mal-functioning safety systems while reducing the burden of service co-ordination for the master.”

Jan Thore Foss, Head of Ship Management, UECC, said: “As an operator committed to continuously enhancing crew safety, Survitec is a natural partner for UECC. The SOLAS 360 solution not only helps us in ensuring our vessels are always regulatory compliant, but it removes the logistical complexities involved in getting safety equipment serviced. Survitec’s comprehensive service network is unrivalled, covering all the ports at which our vessels are serviced.”

Equipment covered in the UECC agreement includes lifeboats, davits, and all fixed and portable fire extinguishing systems, which are maintained, serviced, inspected and certified at Survitec’s global network of service centres, using standardised high-end equipment and processes. A liferaft exchange programme is also included in the agreement to avoid the lengthy servicing times associated with more conventional repair and servicing arrangements.

Typically, ship managers source suppliers at the port, compare prices, travel charges, spare part costs and coordinate inspections, but Survitec’s SOLAS 360 service removes this complexity and uncertainty

Andreas Dåsvatn, Sales Manager Nordic, Survitec, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with UECC. Through this contract we will be entrusted to manage all UECC’s service needs for LSAs. We have appointed a dedicated service representative to work with the operator to harmonise equipment service dates, which results in fewer port calls and reduced maintenance costs.

“UECC now has direct access to Survitec’s leading regulatory experts to ensure all mandatory rules and regulations are met and equipment up-to-date.”

For a fixed annual subscription fee per vessel, users of the SOLAS 360 service can optimise the servicing of all the safety equipment onboard through one supplier, allowing operators to monitor due service dates, schedule service calls and inspections, and to easily access the relevant safety certificates. Importantly, SOLAS 360 helps operators more effectively manage budgets by removing a significant number of individual transactions.

Survitec announced the agreement during the Nor-Shipping 2019, in Oslo, Norway, where Lende-Harung hosted a technical seminar focussed on SOLAS 360.  Survitec’s also showcased for the first time a new range of davits at trade fair.
